Version 3.2 Supported Features

All version 3.1 features, with the following additions and improvements.
  • Renamed C++ modules for clarity:
    • SU2_DDC ---> SU2_PRT
    • SU2_MDC ---> SU2_DEF
    • SU2_MAC ---> SU2_MSH
    • SU2_GDC ---> SU2_GEO
    • SU2_GPC ---> SU2_DOT
  • Unified set of SU2 test cases (meshes and config. files) are now available on GitHub (https://github.com/su2code/TestCases).
  • Major updates to the MPI implementation that improve performance and align with the MPI 3.0 standard.
  • Modifications that greatly enhance computational efficiency and memory scalability of mesh partitioning for parallel calculations.
  • Stricter checking and improved error messages for robust parsing of configuration options.
  • New constant lift mode. Specify a target lift coefficient rather than a fixed angle of attack.
  • Upgrades to the CGNS mesh reader for further support of mixed-element meshes.
  • General bug fixes and maintenance.

Version 3.1 Supported Features

All version 3.0 features, with the following additions and improvements.
  • Important changes to the configuration file options to improve clarity and robustness.
  • New features and configuration options for the mesh deformation process and for computing geometric constraints.
  • FFD boxes are now available for use in 2D optimization problems.
  • Stability improvements to the SST turbulence model.
  • Direct integration of the METIS and TecIO source code for automatic compilation and linking through the autotool build process.
  • General bug fixes and maintenance.

Version 3.0 Supported Features

Most of the version 2.0 features, with the following additions and improvements. Note: development on the discrete adjoint and sliding mesh interfaces has been frozen, and these features are not currently supported in SU2 V3.0 and above.

  • Adjoint-based RANS shape optimization.
  • New unsteady analysis and design optimization capability.
  • Major upgrades to the underlying parallelization and file I/O.
  • Automatic evaluation of geometrical quantities (thickness, AoA, etc).

Version 2.0 Supported Features

All version 1.1 features, with the following additions and improvements.
  • Improved parallelization.
  • Improved multigrid.
  • Additional flexibility in the specification of the optimization problem.
  • SST turbulence model (V&V stage).
  • 3D Reacting flow simulations using air gas chemistry models.
  • New inlet-outlet boundary conditions.
  • Engine boundary conditions.
  • Improved grid adaptation technique.
  • Unsteady design.
  • Sliding surfaces.
  • Multi-zone capability.
  • Continuous Adjoint RANS and Plasma equations.
  • Discrete Adjoint Euler equations.
  • Low Mach number preconditioning.
  • New linear solvers and line implicit preconditioning.
  • Updated python scripts.

Version 1.1 Supported Features

All version 1.0 features, with the following additions and improvements.

  • Windows 7 installer with full feature support (parallelism, CGNS support, etc.)
  • Improved parallelization.
  • Pointwise plugin for direct export to SU2 grid formats.
  • Additional flexibility in the specification of the optimization problem.
  • Additional spatial discretization schemes, including HLLC and AUSM (1st and 2nd order accuracy).
  • Axisymmetric implementation for Euler and incompressible governing equations.
  • 3D Reacting flow simulations using argon gas chemistry models.
  • Free surface simulation and design.
  • Periodic boundary conditions.
  • Updated python scripts.
